Debbie Manning was peeved. Alyson Huber somehow snuck onto Manning’s already tight chamber lunch agenda last Wednesday, and the assemblywoman was always welcome, of course, but couldn’t she have at least let the chamber boss know she’d be speaking?
Huber invited Town Center Chief Tony Mansour to the podium and before the normally in-control Manning knew what was going on, the pair unveiled a framed proclamation and asked her to join them at the front of the room.
The whereas-laden state Assembly resolution extols Manning’s contributions to the community and praises her “unsurpassed enthusiasm,” citing the programs she either birthed or nurtured, including the Community Family Fair, the Premier Partners, the El Dorado Hills Community Foundation, the Government Regulations Committee and the California Welcome Center.
Afterward, Mansour said he and Huber came up with the idea at the recent Welcome Center grand opening. “Debbie doesn’t get the credit she deserves for everything she does in this community,” he said. “This community is lucky to have her.”
In addition to recognizing her longtime service to the El Dorado Hills community the resolution encourages Manning’s “indomitable efforts” in the years ahead.
A clearly moved Manning later said, “Those who know me understand that I’m not often at a loss for words, but this did it.”
